| REMEMBER BOYS AND GIRLS ITS NOT BIG AND ITS NOT CLEVER TO GO ON TO ANY FROZEN PONDS DESPITE HOW THICK ITS FROZEN OR HOW HARD THE ICE IS TO BRAKE!!!!!!
JUST REMEMBER THAT THE MAJORITY OF OUR WATERS ARE EXTREAMLY DEEP AROUND THE EDGES AND DO REALLY TAKE A LOT TO FREEZE THEM SOLID.
ALL WAYS TELL YOUR MUMMY WHERE YOUR GOING TO JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT!! |

| Thanks for your replies. It has not been above 30 degs F here since I did the start of this post. I do not expect to wet a line around here now until Feb if I am lucky. I caught tail end of talksport angling yesterday and heard keith arthur say that its best if we have a slow thaw but missed the reason why?

| i was at burnhole for a look yesterday ,managed to break some ice on roadside it was about 2 or 3 inch thick in the edge!!!!! so it could well be a while before it thaws out.
there was no ice at all on rita, there was a couple of people just packing bivvys away down the bottom end, wonder if they caught???
funny how rita dont freeze though i heard its because its that deep the earths core keeps it warm!!!!! LOL |

| Late 80's i remember seeing Rita about 75% frozen but it was only very thin ice no more than 6mm, quite easy to break and i caught a few fish.
Ive no idea why it never fully freezes, perhaps because its so low in the ground, perhaps because its fed with natural water from the water table and as such slightly warmer, no real ideas just guessing. |

| Many years ago when it was being Eel netted, it was a friend of mine that was doing the netting, i went with him one day to pull up the traps we went round Rita in his inflatable dinghy, i couldnt resist the temptation to take my fish finder with me, we never went out into the middle but did go far enough from the bank to see it showing 75ft, i would think its possibly 90ft in the deepest parts as the slope had started leveling out at the points we went over. |

| Jack, i've caught Eeel's on there in 50ft of water. I've had Pike at 40-50ft deep on Windermere and caught Char at 60ft deep on Coniston, so yes fish will go down that deep. |

| Hi,
11 days after I started this post and there is still snow outside. Still waters here are still unfishable.
But the thaw has finally started.
My first fishing match of 2010 is, hopefully, first thurs of feb at Rosemary Wood, weather and ice permitting.
Anyone attempted to get that trolley off the lake b4 it sinks and becomes a swearable snag????
cheers,
G. |

| I wasn't advocating that someone go out and get it by walking on ice or maybe now it is water but throwing a crude grab ouut to it and pulling it in.
Oh and the snow has finally gone.

| I walked around today at 12ish, High Pond is totaly frozen so is Burnhole, Low pond has a few ice free pegs 18-24, Moorfoot was 3/4 frozen Ray Henry was fishing in the ice free part but hadnt had a bite in the first hour or so. Rita is ice free as normal. And the Res is about 3/4 frozen. The ice isnt that thick it could be broken fairly easy if you really wanted to fish but if its very cold again tonight it will get thicker. |
